The Hazards of Duke - The Atlantic

The Hazards of Duke - The Atlantic: What a fantastic little nugget of information this was, about the person and character of Megyn Kelly! Syracuse University, whose famous department of television communications had clearly set her on the path to the golden hair and the job at Fox; the fact that all these years later she was still proud of the boy’s having been not just a member of the team, but its captain; the clear authority that she derived from having actually dated him, having been his girlfriend, not his Karen Owen. “Men do not respect women who do this,” she said. “You may sleep with half the lacrosse team—they don’t think that’s a great thing.”

She became more adamant, the words tumbling out faster and faster. “They don’t talk about how great you are,” she said, and now she was actually looking angry. I realized she was no longer warning young women away from unwise behavior. She was now defending the righteous tradition of Division I Men’s Lacrosse and all of the excellent guys who play it, and she was punishing the woman who had dared to come forward and make the sport and its players look bad. “They don’t talk about how great you are,” she said scornfully; “they talk about what a joke you are.”

Can We Be Honest About Women?

Can We Be Honest About Women?: Here’s a little secret we have to say out loud: Women love the sexual interplay they experience with men, and they relish men desiring their beauty.
By D.C. McAllister
DECEMBER 12, 2017
David French of National Review recently wrote an article asking, “Can we be honest about men?” In it, he laments the avalanche of sexual harassment cases in the media, politics, and entertainment, asking, “When will it end?”

“The obvious answer is never,” he says. “At least not until we stare human nature in the face, confront it squarely, and call men to live according to a higher and better purpose. We could endure the zombie apocalypse, and the world would be full of local warlords using their power and status to exploit women.” He continues:

Here’s a simple reality — large numbers of men enter high-status professions (such as entertainment and politics) in part or even primarily to gain access to beautiful women. Large numbers of men achieve wealth in part or even primarily to gain access to beautiful women. Large numbers of men who enter high-status professions or gain wealth for good and virtuous reasons soon become corrupted by access to beautiful women. As we’ve learned, some men even become so-called ‘male feminists’ primarily to gain the trust of beautiful women.
Object all you want, but it’s true. Indeed, for men, having a beautiful woman on your arm is often seen as the ultimate marker of status. Become successful enough — no matter your looks or social awkwardness or painful dating history — and a beautiful woman is your reward.

Sex with a micropenis can be a mind-bendingly good experience | New York Post

Topic: Cutting the crap early on, in online dating. | MGTOW

Topic: Cutting the crap early on, in online dating. | MGTOW: Let’s play a game I call ‘Reverse the Genders’. I’m going to write a profile similar to those of women in my dating range (late 30’s to late 40’s). Since you all have this Santa Clause long checklist where every box needs to get ticked, let me treat you in a similar fashion. I can’t speak for all men, but many, more than you know, agree with me. Don’t worry, plenty of thirsty of simps out there. Wondering what you’re doing wrong? Wondering why you can’t find the ‘perfect’ guy after being on multiple dating sites for 5 stinking years? Don’t act like you haven’t been. Imagine if every male profile you read was like this:

Hello. My money is my own and you will get none of it. Not for some time at least as trust and respect have to be earned. I have a kid and you will never be more important than her. Not. Ever. I prefer petite, women who aren’t land whales with at least shoulder length hair, and so if you’re amazon like tall, have a short ditzy-bob haircut or can’t control your eating, you need not apply. My exercise and hockey league take up much of my time but I’ll squeeze you in if I can. They also take up money…and that’s not going to stop even if we dated on a regular basis. You need to have job. You’re all equal now. If you’re not liar and are truly interested in real companionship, why does what I do for living, what car I drive or where I live matter? Pick equality or chivalry, you can’t have both. At our age, let’s face it; marriage is out of the question as most of us have been dragged through the divorce ringer. Why is just having a long term relationship a problem? Marriage is bulls~~~. Disagree? Probably means you’d like the law involved to get your hands on my cash. Move on.
You will never be my best friend as those are the guys I’ve known since the age of 17, military buddies I’ve bled with, kindergarten and birth. They like me for who I am. You never will. Sex is a very important part of a relationship. Yes, it takes more than sexual attraction and looks but let’s not kid ourselves. You know within the first 45-60 seconds of meeting us if you want to get horizontal (more on this in the date section). So none of this ‘friends first’ bulls~~~ as that means I’ll be shelling out lots of cash for God knows how long. We’re all adults here. No sex by the third date? Move on. Nor did I just fall off the turnip truck. You think I don’t you’re texting the guy you’re probably going to f~~~ later while we’re sitting at dinner? I’m on to you and tired of competing with your 24/7/365 connection to the hive mind. For the love of God, stay of your phone for 10 minutes, it that’s even possible.
You like to talk about how relationships take work while you won’t do it yourselves. I know your inboxes are over flowing so why work you can sit back and get your ego stroked? Same goes for first dates and as the relationship goes on. I work for the ‘pleasure’ of your company while you do nothing. I won’t put on a clown suit? The next sucker will, on to him. You want to work for a relationship about as much I like the Lifetime channel. It’s all empty rhetoric.
In no particular order, don’t message me if:
1. You have high angle pictures or other deceptive ways of hiding your body. We’ll have to meet in real life eventually so why lie? You want an honest man? Be honest yourself.
2. You think overweight means ‘average’ body type.
3. Have pictures of you with men in them. Who are they? Old boyfriends? FWB’s?
4. Pictures of you with your girlfriends. Which one are you? I’ll wager not the attractive one.
5. Pictures of you with duck lips. Are you 15?
6. Text talk. See 5.
7. Pictures of pets, flowers, motivational quotes, etc. Who the f~~~ cares?
8. Talk exercise and your body doesn’t reflect it. See 1.
9. Pictures of you in Chicago. I’ll just assume you’re pretentious.
10. Pictures of you with wine, going on about wine, good wine, etc. Giant red flag of pretentiousness.
11. What I should be doing or how much I should be drinking on the first date. Anything else mom?
12. You plan on giving me a job interview on the first date. Instant walk out.
13. On your phone? Instant walk out.
14. You have a motorcycle. Cool, but no thank you.
15. You have stupid statements in your profile. “I like to have fun!” No s~~~?
16. You are a ‘career’ woman. Pass.
17. You can’t cook.
18. We live in the same town and you want to drive all the way to the city to go to bars. F~~~ing really?
19. You get your life lessons/ideas from Sex in the City.
20. I like super heroes and science fiction. Deal with it.
21. Hockey season is coming. Hope you like watching the Blackhawks.
22. If you started liking the Hawks in 2010, Do. Not. Contact. Me.
23. If you can’t explain icing or off sides don’t even talk to me about hockey.
24. I’m a straight male. I don’t dance.
25. I own guns. I carry one. Get used to it.
26. If you’re “Waiting for Superman, Mr. Right, Prince Charming or the Perfect Guy”. Don’t hold your breath. Remember what I said about being on here for 5 years?
27. “If you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best.” I just threw up in my mouth.
28. “Tired of games, liars, players”. Heard it before. Prove it.
29. You’re ‘just looking’. This is a dating site professor.
30. I mostly watch animated shows. Deal with it.
31. I will not go to 50 Shades of Grey. Have fun.
32. If you like the beach. I hate sand.
33. You can’t pull off a bikini. A real one.
34. You have cats.
35. You have anything in your profile stating how crazy you are or how you’ll stab somebody because of your ethnicity. No thank you. Don’t want to be killed in my sleep.
36. You live in Chicago. Too far. Don’t like crowds, waiting or $8 beers.
37. If you think I’m meeting your friends anytime soon.
38. You’re looking for ‘casual dating/no commitment’. Translation – free s~~~ and no sex.
39. You list travel as an interest. It means I’ll be paying for trips. Plus, who the hell would want to go to an airport if they didn’t have to?
40. You think I care what your sign is.
41. You think you’re a queen or princess.
42. You’re pushing 40 and looking for someone to marry. For what exactly?
43. Your tongue is out. Put it back in your damn mouth.
44. “I’m done with the bar scene.” No, it’s done with you.
45. You do anything in mud. Are you a pig? Just another stupid fad you latched on to.
46. You have pictures of girls’ night out with stupid sideways peace signs. You’re always telling us to grow up, why don’t you do the same?
47. Contact me if we dated/talked before. I have a mind like a steel track and I will burn you.
48. Go on about your ‘career’. This does not turn me on, nor do I care.
49. Get surprised when I tell you to go f~~~ yourself if you flake on the first date. No, I won’t’ reschedule.
50. All your friends are guys.
51. You use the following words when describing a man: Career oriented. Secure in his career. Stable. Has a good job and so on. Translation-“I want $$$$$$$$$$$”
52. You have a motor mouth. That is why men play video games. Our consoles have an ‘OFF’ button.
53. You think communication means running your mouth 240 MPH while saying nothing. See 52.
54. I don’t want to hear about your ex. By all means, go back to the guy who spent his paycheck on cocaine or physically abused you as you can’t stop talking about him.
55. You’ve gone through a ‘cougar’ stage. Not paying for sloppy seconds, thirds or fourths you gave away for free to guys young enough to be your sons.
56. You think I’m going to communicate here for days.
Date:
A bar I will pick where we will watch professional hockey and you can pay for your own overpriced drink. Or, for once, you come up with something. Do I look like a jester that’s supposed to entertain you? You’ve gone on and on about how educated and intelligent you are but can’t figure out a date idea? It won’t be dinner. Whatever it is, you’ll be paying for your own s~~~. We’re adults, so if you think we won’t be horizontal after the third date, just move on because you want free dinners or lack the will to act which is probably worse. $40 is my limit. $0 is optimal.
Whoops. I just disqualified every woman in America. How does it feel? There are reasons you’ve been on dating sites for half a decade. Keep searching for that unicorn.
Friendly advice: Peruse the interwebz for multiple articles and videos of women lamenting about “Where have all the good men gone” and the like. You may control sex, but we control LTR’s and marriage. A little self-reflection wouldn’t hurt either.

Marcellus (PA) – update through August 2017 – Visualizing US shale oil & gas production

Marcellus (PA) – update through August 2017 – Visualizing US shale oil & gas production

OK, Enno. My ‘contrasting’ view as an American, an oil and natural gas producer, as someone that understands decline rates and well economics, is that “promoting” unconventional resource abundance encourages its use and creates a false sense of security in my country. It is the wrong message. And a dangerous one. The message should be one of moderation, of fiscal responsibility for the sake of price stability, employment stability, a healthy oil and gas industry and encouragement of conservation of our remaining resources.
There is nothing that I see in your realized production data presentations, I repeat… nothing, that even remotely suggests America is on its way to hydrocarbon independence. The debate here on your blog, I would hope, would not be one of talking up E&P stocks but one of concern for our long term future. My industry, even little ‘ol me, has a fiduciary responsibility to tell the truth about that future, to remind folks that the easy stuff is long gone, and the hard stuff, like shale oil and shale gas, is going to come at an enormous cost to society. Statistically American’s have very little in their savings accounts, are not prepared for retirement, and pretty much live hand to mouth. It will be a great tragedy for us to not have “saved’ any hydrocarbons for our children.
Thanks.
Mike

The Best Chocolate Cookie Recipe

BEHOLD I BRING YOU TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY
MOM’S (Lois Lucille McNair Van der Leun’s ) CLASSIC OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
Please note: It is not to be made merely by combing the ingredients but by following the procedure, the sacred ritual.
Combine: 3/4 Cup brown sugar with 3/4 Cup white sugar.
Mix in until smooth but gritty 1 cup shortening ( Crisco [classic] or butter/marge + Crisco in varying proportions )* This, and other mixing moments, can be done with your hands if a) you have washed them, and b) nobody’s around to see you do it. Maintain plausible deniability.
Add 2 eggs — Beaten– plus 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Combine One and 1/2 Cups flour with 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon soda and then work into sugar, shortening and egg mixture until smooth.
Add two cups of rolled oats and work into the dough. Add one 12 oz package semi-sweet chocolate chips (No more. Resist temptation.) and (optional) 1 cup chopped black walnuts**. Shape into medium-sized (no more than 3″ in diameter, baked) cookies and bake on a greased cookie sheet
Bake in a 350 oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Monitor at around 8 minutes.
The recipe is usually good for 2-3 standard size cookie sheets. When baking, it is best to start one tray in the lower rack of the oven and after eight minutes move it to the upper.
Allow to cool. You will snake three to five and burn your lip on the first bite, but try to show a little restraint after this, okay?
Yield: 4-5 Dozen
Note: The Holy Cookie, when baked to perfection, should not be chewy or soft but possess, upon being cooled, a toothsome quality and a certain proportion of crisp-walled open cells throughout the cookie that absorb milk when dunked, but do not become a milk sodden mush. The milk should be present within the cells of the cookie, but the cookie itself, providing one has not be lazy and let it just slosh around in the glass, should still retain a certain crispness and emit a distinct crunch when consumed.
* Yes, Crisco. This ancient pure product of Amerca can still be found in the baking aisle. The Holy Cookies cannot achieve their proper milk absorbing properties without its presence. If you have some sort of issue with Crisco, get over it and just cowboy up. While butter or margarine can be used in combination with Crisco, their proportions are problematical. One stick is probably the maximum.
** Black Walnuts are optional but not, strictly speaking, classic. Still, they add an extra texture which is appealing, unless, of course, you are allergic to walnuts in which case you eat them and you die — happy and with an enhanced skill set.

Woodpile Report

Woodpile Report: Sovereign Man tells us how automated index funds are leading to a buy-sell market rather than a trading market and warns of an automated, self-reinforcing cascade in a downturn. Key data:

37% of the S&P 500 stocks are now passively managed index funds, meaning computerized trading.
Vanguard has $3 trillion in index funds and owns 6.8% of the S&P 500.
BlackRock has $4.3 trillion in index funds.

James Rawles at Survival Blog has a warning for preppers:

The P/E ratio of the Dow Jones stocks now stands above 31 to 1. There have only been two times since the early 1880s that U.S. stocks have been so grossly overbought: Just before 1929 stock market crash and just before the 2000 “dot.com” bubble implosion. Consider this an earnest stock market crash warning.

This song is by Dean Martin and appears on the album Nashville Sessions (1983).
Old bones inside an old raincoat
Old bones inside of old shoes
Old friends at the hotel
Come by to wish me well
And keep me up to date on all the old news

Sometimes I have an old whiskey
And I fall asleep in my chair
And I dream that I'm a man
Much younger than I am
I bet you'd think by now that I wouldn't care

But I love life, I'd like to do it again
Though I might not be much more than I've ever been
Just to have the chance to turn back the hands
And let my life begin
Oh yeah, I'd like to do it again

It's time for takin' it easy
It's time for takin' it slow
Old bones don't move so fast
As they did once in the past
Now if I have to run, I simply don't go

But I love life, I'd like to live it again
Though I might not be much more than I've ever been
Just to have the chance to turn back the hands
And let my life begin
Oh yeah, I'd like to do it again

Oh yeah, I'd like to do it again

Viagra Joke

A woman asks her husband. “Would you like some breakfast? I can go fix you an omelet or something.”

“No it’s okay, the Viagra’s really ruined my appetite”

At lunch time, she asks her husband again “How about some chili for lunch? I know how you love chili with crackers.”

“No thank you dear, I’m still not hungry, Viagra takes away my hunger. I know I should eat but I just can’t.”

When dinner time rolls around, she asks her husband “How about some salmon for dinner? I could go and put them on the grill right now. It wouldn’t take long and besides, you really should eat something.”

“I’m sorry baby, I’m just not hungry.”

“Well in that case, would you mind getting off of me so I can get something to eat? I’m freaking starving!”

Why The Shale Oil "Miracle" Is Becoming A "Debacle" | Zero Hedge: Why The Shale Oil "Miracle" Is Becoming A "Debacle"

Why The Shale Oil "Miracle" Is Becoming A "Debacle"

Tyler Durden's picture
Energy is everything.
This is an amazingly important concept. Yet it's almost universally overlooked.
Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate the magical role energy plays in our daily lives because most of what we experience is a derivative of it. The connection is hidden from direct view.  Because of this, most people utterly fail to detect or appreciate the priceless and irreplaceable role of high net-energy fuel sources (such as oil and gas) to our modern lifestyle.

With high net-energy, society enjoys increasing complexity and technological advances. It's what enables us to pursue massive goals like desalinating billions of gallons of seawater, or going to Mars.  But without high net-energy fuel sources, our capabilities quickly regress to those of decades -- or even centuries -- past.
Which is why understanding where we truly are in the 'net-energy story' is so incredibly important. Is the US on the cusp of being "energy independent" from here on out? Is the "shale miracle" ushering in a glorious new 'boom' era that will vault America to unprecedented prosperity?
No. The central point of this report is that the US is deluding itself when it comes to energy abundance (generally) and oil (specifically).

Last week that as Illinois, a state which now faces , struggles over the next two weeks to somehow come up with its…

Yet that's not what we hear from the cheerleaders in the industry or in our media. From them, we hear a silver-tongued narrative of coming riches -- a narrative that contains some truth, some myth, and a lot of fantasy.
It’s those last two parts -- the myths and fantasies -- that are going to seriously hurt many investors, as well cause a lot of extremely poor policy and investment decisions.
The bottom line is this: The US shale industry resembles a fraudulent Ponzi scheme much more so than it does any kind of "miracle".
How do I know that?  Because, collectively, US shale companies have lost cash in every year of their existence.  The burned through cash when oil was $100 -- and again when it was $90, $80, $70, $60, $50, $40, and $30 a barrel.  They burned through cash in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
You don’t have to be a finance guru to appreciate or understand that any industry that persistently burns through cash is a bad deal.  Especially one whose prime product – shale wells – principally deplete (-85%) in roughly three years.  If you’ve been in business for 9 years drilling wells that mostly run out in 3 years, and you haven’t managed to produce positive cash flow at any point along the way, then it's time to admit that your business model simply doesn’t work.
As even The Economist magazine recently noted:
The [US shale] industry has also lifted productivity. Drilling is faster, more selective and more accurate, and leakage rates are lower. Wells are being designed to penetrate multiple layers of oil that are stacked on top of each other.

But the fact that the industry makes huge accounting losses has not changed. It has burned up cash whether the oil price was at $100, as in 2014, or at about $50, as it was during the past three months.

The biggest 60 firms in aggregate have used up $9bn per quarter on average for the past five years.

As a result the industry has barely improved its finances despite raising $70bn of equity since 2014. Much of the new money got swallowed up by losses, so total debt remains high, at just over $200bn.
Let’s run that math. Five years is 20 quarters. That times $9 billion/quarter is $180 billion dollars in cumulative operating losses. This begins to give us a sense of the magnitude of losses investors will face when the music finally stops.
Or we could note the $200 billion of total debt outstanding for the industry.  Hmmmm…with WTIC oil at $47/barrel, a typical wellhead price (that the operators actually receive being less than WTIC, always) might be closer to $40.  $200 billion divided by $40 means that 5 billion barrels of future wellhead production is required just to pay back the debt!
If the industry decided to use the next 5 billion barrels coming out of the ground to debt reduction (it never would decide this, but bear with me for the sake of this intellectual exercise), we'd also need to include the time value of money (and actual production rates over time) and observe that the debt carries an interest rate of 5% to 8% (depending on the company). Taking that into consideration, then the next 6billion barrels would be required to satisfy the debt, plus interest payments!
Oh, right. And then there's the issue of repaying the $70 billion of equity raised since 2014. With some sort of return, if possible, of course.
I hope you see the same staggering disconnect in these numbers I do. Which is why, without have to go too far out on a limb, I’ll state that massive losses are coming to the (bag)holders of all this debt and equity.
So why care? Because you need to understand these details in order to position yourself properly for the future. The implications are enormous.

The Danger Behind Myths and Fantasies

Once you become aware of the magical thinking involved, you then have a chance of knowing why the future is going to be very difficult for the shale industry, its investors, and then the nation(s) depending on its oil production.
Hey, sometimes myths and fantasies are harmless to hold. Like dreaming that someday you’ll be a major rock star.
But some can be incredibly damaging because they lead to poor life choices and decision-making. Like emptying your bank account to bet on the Powerball lottery, where your chances of winning are 292,201,338 to one. Or committing your nation to a ground war in Asia thinking you can "win".
The promise of US shale oil is a very dangerous siren song. It was so carefully marketed to gullible investors that even Obama’s speechwriter and fact checkers got swept along.  This is from Obama’s State of the Union speech from 2014:
Now, one of the biggest factors in bringing more jobs back is our commitment to American energy.  The all-of-the-above energy strategy I announced a few years ago is working, and today, America is closer to energy independence than we’ve been in decades.
What does “energy independence” mean?  It turns out, this crowd-pleasing phrase is a fantasy that lacks any useful grounding in reality.  What  those who claim "energy independence" are doing are lumping all forms and sources of energy into a single bucket, and then asking if the size of that bucket matches our current demand.
This is an inappropriate and dangerously misguided way to look at things is because the various types and sources of energy are not interchangeable.  They don't function the same way. They generally can't be substituted for each other. And they don't cost the same.
For example, your automobile might run on gasoline which costs $2.50 a gallon.  Suppose instead you could buy coal cheaper than gasoline on a BTU basis; is that any help to you as an auto driver?  Would you suddenly put crushed coal into your gas tank instead of gasoline? No, of course not.
What if you had a micro hydro plant operating in your backyard and could extract a more Kilowatt hours of electricity from it each week than you needed. Would that make you “energy independent?”
Not if you drive a car that requires gasoline. Or cook on a gas-powered stove. Or heat your house with an oil-burning furnace.
The same is true for the US (or any country). A country is not "energy independent" unless it can meet all of its national energy demands with enough BTUs in each of the needed fuel types. Just looking at oil alone, the US still imports millions of barrels per day -- even with the "shale miracle". I'll get into this more deeply in just a moment.
But first, back to the myth of "energy independence". The EIA itself has been a major proponent of this useless data glob as seen in their most recent 2017 Annual Energy Outlook:
