Eating raw sauerkraut prevents cancer
Eating raw sauerkraut prevents cancer
(NaturalHealth365) Sauerkraut, that familiar hot dog condiment, may not have the beauty of garnet-colored raspberries or the sweet, refreshing flavor of tropical fruits. But the latest scientific research tells us that freshly-made organic sauerkraut is a true superfood that boosts the immune system, promotes intestinal health, and helps to prevent cancer in many ways.
How does sauerkraut prevent cancer?
Cabbage, the cruciferous vegetable from which sauerkraut is made, is already valued by natural food experts and nutritionists for its sky-high amounts of anticarcinogenic bioactive compounds. In fact, the glucosinolates in cabbage help to activate the body’s own antioxidants – which in turn fight the lipid oxidation and inflammation that can trigger cancer and heart disease.
Additionally, the process of lacto-fermentation involved in turning cabbage to sauerkraut produces beneficial bacteria and unleashes even more potent anti-inflammatory cancer-fighting substances – taking the health benefits to a whole new level and helping to ward off cancers of the prostate, bladder and breast.
Lactic fermentation helps to ward off cancer
According to author and natural health expert Sandor Ellix Katz, the process of lactic fermentation not only preserves the nutrients in food, but breaks them down so they are even more healthful and easily digested. But what, exactly, is lactic fermentation, and why is it beneficial?
Although the term sounds somewhat technical, it is actually the natural result of layering shredded cabbage in water with salt, then letting existing bacteria on the cabbage do the work. The end product – sauerkraut – contains more live probiotic cultures than yogurt.
One result of lacto-fermentation is to create large amounts of beneficial lactobacillus bacteria, which support friendly flora in the intestinal tract. Another is the release of isothiocyanate compounds, from existing glucosinolate; it is these isothiocyanates that have shown such pronounced anticarcinogenic effects in cell, laboratory and human studies.
Impressive science behind the benefits of sauerkraut
In an October 2002 article in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, researchers announced that they had isolated isothiocyanates in sauerkraut, and that these compounds had cancer-protective effects in animal studies. They added that clinical research would be required to determine if these effects extended to humans.
In the twelve years since the article was published, many studies on sauerkraut and sauerkraut juice show that it lowers cancer risk in humans – particularly for cancers of the breast and colon.
In a study published in 2011 in British Journal of Nutrition, researchers noted that the detoxifying enzymes in sauerkraut juice have an anticarcinogenic effect on kidney and liver cancer cells, and added that sauerkraut juice increased levels of glutathione-S-transferase – considered a chemoprotective agent.
Sauerkraut’s probiotic cultures attack cancer cells.
In a review published in 2006 in Journal of Applied Microbiology, researchers stated that lactic acid bacteria could prevent certain types of cancer – including colon and bladder cancer – and categorized the ways in which probiotic cultures help to torpedo cancer cell development.
Not only do probiotic cultures detoxify ingested carcinogens and stimulate the immune system, they also create an environment hostile to carcinogenic compounds. Specifically, they create organic compounds – including butyrate – that inhibit the growth of tumors and encourage the apoptosis, or programmed cell death, of cancer cells.
The authors theorized that probiotic cultures may also suppress bacteria responsible for turning procarcinogens to carcinogens, and added that lactobacillus could bind to mutagenic compounds in the intestine.
What is the best type of sauerkraut to prevent cancer?
Buy only sauerkraut that is freshly made, raw, unpasteurized and organic; your best bet is to look for it in the refrigerated aisle of local markets or farmers markets. Avoid canned sauerkraut, which offers far fewer nutrients and probiotic benefits.
Most experts recommend consuming at least 1 and ½ cups of sauerkraut 4 to 5 times a week; 2-cup servings, of course, are even healthier.
One cautionary note: raw sauerkraut produces raffinose, a trisaccharide that can’t be broken down in the intestine. Bloating and flatulence can result, but should subside as your body becomes accustomed to this healthful food.
Fresh lacto-fermented sauerkraut, packed with cancer-fighting compounds and antioxidants and high in healthful dietary fiber, is a superb nutritional choice.

-Zucchini
-Raw Sunflower seeds (sprouted is better)
-Raw Almonds (sprouted is better)
-Sprouted Garbanzo Beans
-Sprouted Mung Beans
-Sprouted Red or Green Lentils
Then I top it off with either one of these naturally fermented foods:
-Bubbies Old Fashioned Sauerkraut
Bubbies is made with only three ingredients: cabbage, water and salt. It is fermented and cured with all natural enzymes intact and there is no vinegar added.(Bubbies Kosher dill pickles are super tasty too.)Look for it in the refrigerated section of your local grocer or health food store.
-Kimchi (Pronounced “Kim Chee”)
Kimchi is a spicy Korean version of sauerkraut typically consisting of fermented cabbage, onions, garlic, and pepper. Kim Chi has high concentrations of Vitamin C and Carotene in addition to Vitamin A, B1, B2, Calcium, Iron and beneficial lactic acid bacteria.

Life Lessons From 100-Plus-Year-Olds
Life Lessons From 100-Plus-Year-Olds: Here is some sound advice... "As a retired physician, I can honestly say that unless you are in a serious accident, your best chance of living to a ripe old age is to avoid doctors and hospitals and learn nutrition, herbal medicine and other forms of natural medicine unless you are fortunate enough to have a naturopathic physician available. Almost all drugs are toxic and are designed only to treat symptoms and not to cure anyone. Vaccines are highly dangerous, have never been adequately studied or proven to be effective, and have a poor risk/reward ratio. Most surgery is unnecessary and most textbooks of medicine are inaccurate and deceptive. Almost every disease is said to be idiopathic (without known cause) or genetic—although this is untrue. In short, our main stream medical system is hopelessly inept and/or corrupt. The treatment of cancer and degenerative diseases is a national scandal. The sooner you learn this, the better off you will be.” Dr. Allan Greenberg, MD, Dec. 24, 2002

Google Sheets Bloomberg import quotes - Investing Sidekick
How to monitor your portfolio with Google Docs - Investing Sidekick: If neither Yahoo or Google can provide the stock price you need then there are other ways to get stock prices. Any website can theoretically be called to get a price. The formula below for example will get the stock price from Bloomberg. This has the widest range of coverage that I have found.
=ImportXml(“http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/ARGO:LN”;”//div[@class=’price’]”)
Do this for each stock, putting the share prices in another column in the same row as the number of shares. If it doesn’t work, make sure you got the ticker from the same website (Yahoo/Google) as you are using in the formula.

[Solved] Inserting quotes from finance.yahoo.com into a cell
by tjeanneret Thu Dec 04, 2008 12:13 am
Hello Everybody,
I want to retrieve informations from yahoo finance and insert them into the appropriate cell in a Calc sheet. I have the format description for the query string (URL) that will return a .csv file from yahoo, for exemple http://finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=AAPL&f=a for the simplest form of the last price of Apple.
But I don't know how I can use this information and put it in place in my spreadsheet.
I use the "link to external data" menu. I can specify the URL in the top dialog. Then I , and Calc retrieves the data from Yahoo, opens the "Import" dialog box, show me the data received and ask me what kind of separator I want to use (!). I accept the default, and . But nothing happens after this point.
The "Link to external data" dialog never gives me a choice for a location where to put the data, and the OK button stays inactive.
I have not found a way to save the .csv file itself in order to process it later.
Could you help me ?
Thanks in advance,

How to Download Stock Prices into Google Spreadsheets - Finance Train
How to Download Stock Prices into Google Spreadsheets - Finance Train: Using Yahoo Finance
You can also download the stock prices from Yahoo Finance. To do so, google spreadsheets come with a nifty function called IMPORTDATA that can be used to import data from a url in .csv/.tsv format.
To retrieve the price of Apple stock from Yahoo finance, type the following function in Google Spreadsheet:
=importdata(“http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=AAPL&f=sl1d1t1c1ohgv&e=.csv”)
This will download all the information about the stock in the spreadsheet, including ticker name, last trade price, volume, etc.
If you wanted historical prices, you can format your URL as below:
http://real-chart.finance.yahoo.com/table.csv?s=AAPL&d=2&e=4&f=2015&g=d&a=11&b=12&c=2000&ignore=.csv
Below is a description of the parameters:
s=AAPL is the symbol, in this case AAPL.
a=11 is the start month (0 for Jan, 1 for Feb, 2 for Mar, etc.). In our example it is December.
b=12 is the start day of the month. In our example, it is 12th.
c=2000 specifies the start year. In our case it is 2000.
So, for the historical data, the start date is 12th December, 2000.
d=2 specifies the end month. In our case it is March.
e=4 specifies the end day of the month In our example it is 4th.
f=2014 specifies the end year. For us it is 2014.
g=w represents the frequency of the data returned. (d for daily, m for monthly, w for weekly). For us, it is daily.
I hope this information will help you manage your finances better.

Hi Philip,
Welcome to the Google Docs Help Forum.
As you mentioned, you're facing issues with some Canadian stocks. I'd recommend following the below steps to see if it helps:
Close the tab and reopen (Ctrl-Shift-T).
Select the cells with formulas, copy and paste back as "values only".
In addition to this, you can try using the IMPORTXML function that can pull the price off the google finance webpage. To learn more, please refer to our useful Help Center Article onGOOGLEFINANCE.
If the issue still persists, please consider sharing a sample sheet with us using the shareable link.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Shasha

Hi Philip,
Thanks for writing back.
I'd recommend going through the stocks that doesn't work for you and use the ticker symbol located in parentheses after the stock name.
For example:
STANDARD EXPLORATION LTD.(CVE:SDE):https://www.google.com/finance?q=SDE.v&ei=RPj7V-mnH5K1iAKwmLvwBA
The formula would be =googlefinance("CVE:SDE")
You currently have it as SDE.v, which appears to be the issue.
Once this is corrected, if the data does not appear or appears incorrectly onfinance.google.com, youcan leave feedback with Google Finance by clicking "Report a problem" at the bottom offinance.google.com.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Shasha

10 Times When Less Is More - Altucher Confidential
10 Times When Less Is More - Altucher Confidential: The MAXIMUM you need to learn to be good at 99% of things in life:
Math: basic probability and statistics that you can do in your head. For instance, know that 1/3 of 10,000 is 3,333 (roughly).
English: Learn how to read. Because later you might like reading and reading will make you a better writer.
Note that whenever you read a book, you might remember 1-2% of it. If you read lots of books that will add up. But no pressure to remember more.
History: A two page outline of the history of the planet. Because all the books are biased.
And then later they get rewritten.
Much later in life you might want to, for fun, explore those biases and read books about it.
Three good history books I think are worth reading:
“Sapiens”by Yuval Noah Harari
“The Evolution of Everything” by Matt Ridley
“Wonderland” by Steve Johnson
Science: Nothing. You don’t even really need to know that the Earth is flat. If you want to be a scientist then learn more science.
Sometimes science is fun. I like reading science fiction.
Art: I don’t know. I never learned art. I’m only starting to appreciate it and read about it now. I’m 48.
In the past few weeks I went to The Broad museum in LA and The Whitney in NYC. Fascinating!
So now I am reading books to learn more. But I’ve never learned about art before because I had no interest.
If you try to teach people with no interest, they won’t learn.
To this day, at every conference I speak at, nobody can tell me the birthdate of Charlemagne within 500 years.
Go ahead, guess right now!

Petroleum Industry | The Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture: Large pockets of high-pressure natural gas and huge oil production characterized Oklahoma City. One well, the Number One McBeth, had a daily flow of 101,002 barrels of oil

Petroleum Industry | The Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture: Also in 1906 the final Osage roll of 2,229 tribal members was completed. Tribal land was allotted, but mineral rights were held in common. Each member was entitled to one Osage headright, or one equal share of oil and natural gas royalty, and the money poured in. On one afternoon in 1924 Walters sold $10,888,000 worth of leases, with a single 160-acre lease bringing $1,990,000. Such huge wealth occasioned an "Osage Reign of Terror," a series of crimes in which Osage headright holders were swindled and sometimes murdered for their share of royalty money

Never Yet Melted
Never Yet Melted: From Lisa Schiffren on Facebook:
A Tourist walked into a Chinese curio shop in San Francisco . While looking around at the exotic merchandise, he noticed a very lifelike, life-sized, bronze statue of a rat. It had no price tag, but was so incredibly striking the tourist decided he must have it. He took it to the old shop owner and asked, “How much for the bronze rat ?”
“Ahhh, you have chosen wisely! It is $12 for the rat and $100 for the story,” said the wise old Chinaman.
The tourist quickly pulled out twelve dollars. “I’ll just take the rat, you can keep the story”.
As he walked down the street carrying his bronze rat, the tourist noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the alleys and sewers and had begun following him down the street. This was a bit disconcerting so he began walking faster.
A couple blocks later he looked behind him and saw to his horror the herd of rats behind him had grown to hundreds, and they began squealing.
Sweating now, the tourist began to trot toward San Francisco Bay.
Again, after a couple blocks, he looked around only to discover that the rats now numbered in the MILLIONS, and were squealing and coming toward him faster and faster.
Terrified, he ran to the edge of the Bay and threw the bronze rat as far as he could into the Bay.
Amazingly, the millions of rats all jumped into the Bay after the bronze rat and were all drowned.
The man walked back to the curio shop in Chinatown.
“Ahhh,” said the owner, “You come back for story?”
“No sir,” said the man, “I came back to see if you have a bronze Democrat.

AMERICAN DIGEST: Comment on Within Living Memory: Norming the Perverted: "In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

As Al Gore Told Donald Trump . . . - HappyAcres: Green handouts have become a political end in themselves.
Over its lifecycle, an electric car will generate just 23% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than a gasoline-powered car. If every car on earth were electric, this translates into a mere 1.8% decline in total emissions.
Yet even a small electric car will cost its owner $20,816 more to own and operate than a comparable gas-powered car, and its total “human toxicity”—mainly due to heavy metals and graphite—will be three to five times greater.

Electotial College
AMERICAN DIGEST Essays, News, Notes, and Quotes: Our presidential election system has, in effect, 51 elections--
46 states, four Commonwealths, and one District of Columbia.
Each one of those "little" elections has electors assigned to it equal to the number of representatives it has in both houses of Congress; each state (in general) grants it electors to the winning candidate within its boundaries. Since we currently have 538 members in that Congress, a winning candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win. The idea of the now much-maligned electoral college is to serve as part of the intricate system of checks-and-balances that this really, really smart Brits instituted to avoid tyrannies by either a minority OR by a majority. Everybody gets a voice, regardless of whether they are big or little. Dear progs, please look at the UN that you love so much: every country there gets the same vote regardless of size: Luxembourg gets the same vote as China. Should we change that?
