devotional????

Remember, along with orbiting around the Sun at 66,600 miles per hour., the Earth is also rotating on its axis at about 1,070 mph. On top of that, don’t forget our whole solar system is rocketing through space around the center of the Milky Way at around 560,000 mph. On top of that, our galaxy is hurtling through space at around 670,000 mph with respect to our local group of galaxies.
So, bottom line, even if you went back in time just a few seconds, you’re going to be in a VERY different place than when you first achieved 88 mph with your DeLorean. Go back several hundred years, and you are going to need an extremely fast space ship and some good star chart data to find your way back to Earth.
But let’s say you’ve figured all that out. After a quick stop to murder baby Hitler and a few of his top cronies (or at the least bring a wizened Mister Rogers back to give their parents some life lessons to instill in their children), how far back could you go and still be able to communicate effectively in the English speaking world?

American Digest - WHEN in the course of human Events, it becomes necessary....

I bequeathe myself to the dirt, to grow from the grass I love;
If you want me again, look for me under your boot-soles.
You will hardly know who I am, or what I mean;
But I shall be good health to you nevertheless,
And filter and fibre your blood.
Failing to fetch me at first, keep encouraged;
Missing me one place, search another;
I stop somewhere, waiting for you.  — Whitman

Fabre’s Book of Insects (1921) – The Public Domain Review

Fabre’s Book of Insects (1921) – The Public Domain Review

quote

Sometimes in the course of human events we detect what looks like the fingerprints of Providence.

Carney: The Anti-Slavery Inspiration of the Declaration of Independence | Breitbart

he first publication of the Declaration of Independence did not occur until the following day, in the print shop of John Dunlap. His work was overseen by the “Committee of Five”—Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman and Robert R. Livingston—which was charged with making sure only the approved text made it out to the 13 colonies.
John Adams initially thought that the day of the vote would echo through the ages as the day the American colonies declared a new epoch had dawned on the earth. But a year later, Philadelphia held a party to commemorate America’s independence on July 4th and we never really looked back.
One of the overlooked sources for Jefferson’s early draft was a now largely forgotten pamphlet written by Judge Samuel Sewall in 1700 titled , “The Selling of Joseph: A Memorial.” It is a remarkable document, one of the earliest antislavery declarations published in the American colonies.

Life is like a mountain railroad

Life is like a mountain railroad
With an engineer so brave
We must make this run successful
From the cradle to the grave
Watch the curves, the fills the tunnels
Never falter, never fail
Keep your hand upon the throttle
And your eye upon the rail
Oh, blessed Savior, thou wilt guide us
Til we reach that blissful shore
Where the angels wait to join us
In God's grace forever more
As you roll across the trestle
Spanning Jordan's swelling tide
You behold the union depot
Into which your train will glide
There you'll meet the superintendent
God the Father, God the Son
With a hearty, joyous greeting
Weary pilgrim, welcome home
