Friends and Family – Birthdays

Friends and Family – Splendid Isolation: The Son&Heir turns 28 today. It is customary for a proud father to brag about his son, but in my case, I am truly blessed. (And those of you who havemet him, please feel free to weigh in with your opinions.)

Eagle Scout, champion shooter, college graduate; he’s popular with everyone who meets him, works with him or has anything to do with him. He’s witty, polite, well-mannered, intelligent, astonishingly well-read, and the best dinner companion anyone could wish for.

He never reads my blog— not one of my kids has ever readanything I’ve written, blog, novels, whatever — so he might not read this, but I don’t care. I bless the day he came into my life, and every day since. He is my son, I love him dearly, and he is a fine, fine man.

Happy birthday, boy.

normblog: The normblog profile 67: Donald Sensing: If you could effect one major policy change in the governing of your country, what would it be? > Both major parties are now wholly converted to Big Government, therefore both parties have become anti-freedom. Both parties see America as a problem to be solved and Americans as a people to be managed. Hence our lives are being regulated at a compounding rate. We are well on our way to thinking that statism is the norm. Somehow we must reverse this process.

Saif al-Islam Qaddafi, the Dictator's 'Good Son,' &c. -- Jay Nordlinger's Impromptus for June 28, 2017 | National Review

Saif al-Islam Qaddafi, the Dictator's 'Good Son,' &c. -- Jay Nordlinger's Impromptus for June 28, 2017 | National Review:

I was struck by a sentence — a phrase in particular. It is found in this story. A fisherman, John Aldridge, was flung off his boat in the Atlantic and stranded, in the ocean, for twelve hours. Twelve “terrifying hours,” the story says. Aldridge himself commented, “Being in the ocean in the middle of the night, 2 o’clock in the morning, 45 miles from land, you gotta really summon up some heavy mental game to get through.”

You gotta really summon up some heavy mental game, for sure. I’ll remember that. God bless John Aldridge, and you all.
