AMERICAN DIGEST: Comment on My Lazy Remington Shotgun: The murder rate in the USA is 4.7 per 100,000. This puts us right in the middle (#109) of a list of 218 countries that has a median of 4.75 and and a mean of 8.64. So the USA murder rate is completely unexceptional (though it is high for a 1st world country).
If you take out the murders in Chicago (422), Detroit (322), New Orleans (155), and Washington DC (103), this would make the murder rate 4.25 and move us up (less murders) to position #102, about equal to the murder rate in Cuba.
