Dems in Senate passed a resolution in1960 against election year Supreme Court appointments
By Thomas Lifson

Read it and weep, Democrats. The shoe is on the other foot. David Bernstein at the Washington Post’s Volokh Conspiracy blog:

Thanks to a VC commenter, I discovered that in August 1960, the Democrat-controlled Senate passed a resolution, S.RES. 334, “Expressing the sense of the Senate that the president should not make recess appointments to the Supreme Court, except to prevent or end a breakdown in the administration of the Court’s business.” Each of President Eisenhower’s SCOTUS appointments had initially been a recess appointment who was later confirmed by the Senate, and the Democrats were apparently concerned that Ike would try to fill any last-minute vacancy that might arise with a recess appointment.

The GOP opposed this, of course. Hypocrisy goes two ways. But the majority won.

AMERICAN DIGEST Essays, News, Notes, and Quotes: "Being a good person begins with being a wise person." -- Scalia

“Movement is not necessarily progress. More important than your obligation to follow your conscience, or at least prior to it, is your obligation to form your conscience correctly.

Nobody — remember this — neither Hitler, nor Lenin, nor any despot you could name, ever came forward with a proposal that read, ‘Now, let’s create a really oppressive and evil society.’ Hitler said, ‘Let’s take the means necessary to restore our national pride and civic order.’ And Lenin said, ‘Let’s take the means necessary to assure a fair distribution of the goods of the world.’ “In short, it is your responsibility, men and women of the class of 2010, not just to be zealous in the pursuit of your ideals, but to be sure that your ideals are the right ones. That is perhaps the hardest part of being a good human being: Good intentions are not enough. Being a good person begins with being a wise person. Then, when you follow your conscience, will you be headed in the right direction.” —Excerpted from Justice Antonin Scalia’s commencement address at Langley High School, in Virginia, where his granddaughter was graduating in June of 2010.

(1) Talon Torres's answer to What is the fastest speed of any object on the earth? - Quora:

Two words. Manhole cover.

Two words. Manhole cover.
You
may think I'm crazy. "How can a manhole cover be faster than New
Horizons", you ask. "What are you on," you ask. Just hear me out.
From SavvyParanoia on Wordpress:
"The
Holy Grail of space-minded dreamers and researchers has always been
nuclear-powered propulsion. Nuclear-powered propulsion would be far
cleaner, far cheaper, far more efficient, and far less noisy than
current roar-and-a-fireball rocket propulsion. (Not sure the last is an
advantage. I’m a big fan of roar-and-a-fireball in almost anything,
including rocket launches, howitzers, and NASCAR races.)
And
in fact we’ve had nuclear propulsion for some time. The small
maneuvering engines of deep-space probes are typically nuclear-powered,
but not in the way usually envisioned: They are tiny, nearly soundless
(even on Earth) little fast-particle emitters that generate fractions of
an ounce of thrust. That’s enough to rotate a spacecraft, given time,
and their nuclear sources last virtually forever, but they’re hardly the
earth-shaking monsters we envisioned blasting from Earth into space.
Too bad we’ve not been able to accomplish that.
Or have we? In a round-about way I recently came across the Nuclear Weapons Archive,
a wonder world of historical documents, photos, and personal accounts
of the Nuclear Age as seen through the history of nuclear bombs and bomb
tests. For the historian, the scientist, or the intellectually curious
the whole archive is a trove of riches, every link and page another
revelation. Jump in anywhere and start reading — you’ll be hooked. And
it’s not just about the U.S. nuclear program — it has material covering
every declared and non-declared nuclear power.
For illustration I’ll pass along just one event documented in the archives that by itself merits a whole book and a movie:
While
all the early nuclear tests had been above ground (what could possibly
be wrong with that, right?), by 1956 Los Alamos was working on how to
contain radiation and fallout by detonating the bombs underground.
Initially the concept was very simple: drill a deep hole, say, 500 feet
deep by four feet wide, lower the bomb to the bottom, light the fuse and
run. (Well, OK, not quite that simple. But the hole was.) Originally
the idea was to leave the holes uncapped, the thinking being that even
with the top of the shaft open relatively little would escape. (Which
was largely true, though not exactly up to modern expectations.)
By
mid-1957 Los Alamos scientist (and famed astrophysicist) Robert
Brownlee was ready to try testing with a capped shaft (known as a
“stemmed” shaft in nuke-speak). In a test known as Pascal-A, a cap of
four-inch-thick solid steel — what one might call the biggest, baddest
manhole cover in history — was securely welded to the top of the shaft.
With nothing else in the way, that far from the bomb the plate would
likely have popped off, but wouldn’t have gone very far.
But something else was
in the way. Way down the shaft, hundreds of feet below the cap, was a
collimator, a five-foot-thick, multi-ton plug of concrete with a small
hole in the middle. The hole served as a small window through which a
special detector attached to the inside of the steel cap could make
measurements during the first few milliseconds of the explosion. After
that first fraction of a second the detector itself would be
annihilated, but its brief set of readings would have been captured by
above-ground recorders.
It’s significant
that what was being tested in Pascal-A was an experimental bomb that was
designed to be “one point safe.” That meant that if it was accidentally
detonated (a significant concern back then), it would only fire only
one of its many trigger points around the explosive core, resulting in a
tiny fraction of the yield, not the whole megillah. The explosion in
the test was therefore expected to be (relatively) very small.
That’s not quite what happened.
At
10:35pm on August 27, 1957 in Area U3d of the New Mexico Nuclear Test
Site, the bomb was detonated. But instead of the expected small yield
the bomb detonated with a yield approximately five orders of magnitude
greater than expected (that’s about 100 000 times greater). The blast
instantly vaporized the entire multi-ton concrete collimator and shot it
up the tube as a multi-ton wave of vaporized matter at extremely high
temperature, pressure, and velocity. The shaft had, in effect, become a
enormous 500-foot long, four-foot wide gun barrel with the energy of
billions of pounds of TNT released at one end and, at the other end, the
now insignificantly small metal cap, about the equivalent of a bottle
cap on the end of a naval gun.
As it
happens, a very high speed film camera was recording the event and was
expected to capture in slow motion the path and speed of any ejecta from
the hole. Unfortunately, the camera, which had quite a wide view of top
of the hole and and the area around and above, recorded the “manhole
cover” on only one frame. There was no malfunction of the camera, it’s
just that the “manhole cover” blasted out of sight so fast that the
camera only saw it for one frame. Later calculations showed that the
heretofore mundane four-foot metal disk had been launched at six times Earth’s escape velocity. That’s one hundred fifty thousand miles per hour. Forty-five miles per second.
Nine times faster than the Space Shuttle, six times faster than the
fastest moon rockets. Faster than the Voyager spacecraft, which, having
reached over 35000 miles per hour, are now leaving the solar system and
have for years been claimed to be the fastest man-made objects ever. To
which I now say: Pshaw and poppycock — the Pascal-A “manhole cover” in a
fraction of a second achieved more than four times the speed it took
Voyager 1 decades to attain.
The “manhole
cover” was, of course, never found. And, to my deep disappointment,
cold-sober calculations indicate it’s not on its way to the Hercules
Cluster which, late on a summer night shot from a vertical hole in New
Mexico, may well be about where it was aimed. Instead it almost
certainly suffered a meteor’s fate in reverse: At such an extreme speed
it would have created an enormous fireball (a fireball going up) and been slowed so much that what didn’t burn off would eventually have come back down.
Being
such a tough and massive object, most of it would have survived its
“reverse re-entry” (or just plain “entry”?), so it would have come down
as a burned, edge-melted, and perhaps quite misshapen chunk of solid
steel, a very formidable projectile that would have done very serious
damage even to large buildings. Given that no one that night reported
any macerated cars or demolished buildings and that the huge object had
been launched nearly vertically, it likely came down in the desert
somewhere in the wide vicinity of the test site in New Mexico. It would
have had some serious hang-time, though.
So
somewhere in the New Mexico desert, unknown and unmourned, lies an
American relic, a piece of history like no other: the fastest man-made
object ever. And I harbor the hope that, whether it’s found or not, our
nation and the world of science will someday realize our error all these
years and recognize that the Pascal-A Manhole Cover, not Voyager 1, is
the fastest man-made object ever."

The Strangers Knocking At My Door @ AMERICAN DIGEST

The Strangers Knocking At My Door @ AMERICAN DIGEST: He contends that it is a huge psychological problem for men, and that while there is now some sympathy for women who have had abortions there is none for men. He says that men are expected to simply forget about it and, when they can't, there is nothing, anywhere, to help them, and that they often feel guilty for feeling guilty! He thinks there needs to be a huge effort to help such men, but -- because awareness of the devastating effects of abortion is still low and there are few resources to devote to it -- so far all the effort is going to help women. You are not alone.

Abortion

As they did last year, they’ve come twice in the last day. They’re kids out running “a raise money for NARAL”
scam. They get a cut of anything they pull in, and they use any info
they get to sell to Planned Parenthood or other death mills.

They’re pleasant and they are enthusiastic (I love the painting! I really admire the tree!) and they hand you the clipboard expecting you to sign in your enthusiasm to support their “work.”

I listen and then I tell them, “No, I don’t support what you’re doing
or the people and causes that you represent. I think it’s evil for you
to do this, and worse still to do it for money.”

Here in Seattle's Queen Anne, where smiles, nods and signups for
their scam are their usual rewards, they seem genuinely surprised and
taken aback.

“You mean you’re not pro-choice?”

I assure them that I am not even if though, long ago, I was.

Yesterday evening, at night on the darkened porch, it was a young woman.
She just shook her head and walked away to get on with her “mission” of
going door to door bilking pro-choicers out of money. I guess she
forgot to leave the chalk mark on my door that indicates “Satan!”
because just now a boy old enough to be a man but forever avoiding it
knocked with the same knock and announced himself as, “Hello, I’m your
friendly neighborhood feminist.” He pointed towards the pink watch cap
he wore.

He ran through the same spiel and handed me what could have been the
same clipboard. I listened and handed it back to it saying, “I don’t
support this.”

“You mean, you’re not pro-choice?”

“Do you have any children?”

“Ah... no.”

“Have you even been through an abortion with, say, a woman you love in support of her right to choose?”

“Well, no.”

“I’ve been through two. The first was one that I supported. The
second was one that I had deep misgivings about but didn’t oppose.

“Those were all long ago, but now I know that those were two children
I didn’t have and will never know, and not a month goes by I don’t
think about that and regret it.

"If it ever happens to you, you’ll agree at the time and then, years
later, it will come back to you. It will come back to you that you are
missing children in your life and it is partially your doing. And it
will haunt you, the thought of the people they could have been.

“You’re young and deluded. You’re going to walk away and make this a
story you’ll tell to the other kids out running your scam. Then you’ll
forget all about it for years, maybe decades, and you’ll go off and have
some abortions of your own.

"And then one day, years after that, you’ll come to know what I know
now. That’s when you’ll remember me; a man who through his own vanity
and foolishness, kept two children out of his life.

“That’s when you’ll remember this moment. But like me, it will be too late for you.”

He walked away shaking his head, already moving into the forgetting.
Some day, it will come back to him. I’ll be remembered as a stranger,
but suddenly not all that strange.

The Top 40: February 2016 Archives

The Top 40: February 2016 Archives

Congress seems to me to be of so little importance as not to merit
attention. I mean this seriously. Does it matter who is on what committee or
speaker of whatever or, for that matter, who wins the presidential election
(unless Trump) or who is on the Supreme Court
The crucial issues facing the country are the endless wars, racial
hostility, immigration, affirmative action, federal surveillance, uncontrolled
looting and burning, the deterioration of the universities, wildly excessive
military spending, the abandonment of the Constitution, the conversion of the
schools into indoctrination camps, the federal practice of torture, and the
enforcement of political correctness by the federal government, academia, and
the media.
What is the relevance of Congress to these? Is it possible to
imagine the alleged legislators (allegislators?) actually doing anything about
any of them? If they were going to, they would have.

When is the last time Congress did anything that mattered?
Obamacare, perhaps,
In today’s world, democracy serves
to keep the population from meddling in policy. If the politically correct
want children to be taught that Sojourner Truth was more important than George
Washington, a committee nobody has heard of in New York mandates the text
book and the Department of Education requires its use by regulation. No politician
is responsible, and infuriated parents in Kansas have no recourse. How do you
remonstrate with an anonymous bureaucracy? What is its phone number?
If the president wants to outlaw
cultural symbolism—forbidding employees of the Veterans Administration to
say “Merry Christmas,” for example—he just does it. (And did.) The Supreme
Court, will ignore the matter or affirm that the Constitution says whatever the
President says. What earthly point is there in paying them attention? To do so
establishes one as being in the last stages of naiveté.
That, incidentally, is the attitude of citizenries of other Third
World countries.

I promise to stop letting the air out of Tom Brady's footballs using George Bush's weather machine
I promise to stop oppressing everybody by respiring
I promise to stop punching clerks in the Home Depot who ask me if I need help. This is going to be hard for me, so I'll do it in two tranches. By June, the girls, and by next December, everyone
I promise to learn a second language. Besides swearing, I mean
I promise to give America back to the Indians. They're already here on H1-B visas, and I like curry, so this is no skin off my back, really
I promise to quit smoking. I also promise to buy a fire extinguisher and stop trying to work on the pellet stove while it's running
I promise to start really eating right. Count every calorie. I'll buy a fitness watch. One of those good ones that even counts your heartbeats when you sleep. I'll start buying supplements, and I'll mix them into the kale smoothies I'll make for breakfast. I'll get a gym membership, and hire a personal trainer. I'll start with hardcore cardio-type stuff, but then I'll move on to free weights and elliptical work. Then I'll start doing Crossfit all the time, and start talking about doing Crossfit stuff all the time, to everyone I meet, children in the street, strangers on the Intertunnel, even to the clerks in Walmart, but not using a Bavarian accent anymore, of course. Or I won't do any of that stuff, and just shovel the snow in my own driveway instead

"We won the war in a military sense,

but in a broader sense it seems to me we lost it,
for our Western civilization is less respected and secure than it was before. In order to defeat Germany and Japan we supported the still greater menaces of Russia and China, which now confront us in a nuclear-weapon era. Poland was not saved. Much of our Western culture was destroyed. We lost the genetic heredity formed through aeons in many million lives. It is alarmingly possible that World War II marks the beginning of our Western civilization’s breakdown, as it already marks the breakdown of the greatest empire ever built by man." —

AMERICAN DIGEST Essays, News, Notes, and Quotes: Along the road to Damascus the light shone brightly. But afterward Paul of Tarsus, too, was sore afraid.

He feared that other Caesars, other prophets, might one day persuade men that man was nothing save a servant unto them, that men might yield up their birthright from God for pottage and walk no more in freedom.

Then might it come to pass that darkness would settle again over the lands and there would be a burning of books and men would think only of what they should eat and what they should wear, and would give heed only to new Caesars and to false prophets. Then might it come to pass that men would not look upward to see even a winter's star in the East, and once more, there would be no light at all in the darkness.

And so Paul, the apostle of the Son of Man, spoke to his brethren, the Galatians, the words he would have us remember afterward in each of the years of his Lord:

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. This editorial was written in 1949 by the late Vermont C. Royster and has been published annually ever since by WSJ

“The fact is that even if every American citizen biked to work, carpooled to school, used only solar panels to power their homes, if we each planted a dozen trees, if we somehow eliminated all of our domestic greenhouse gas emissions, guess what – that still wouldn’t be enough to offset the carbon pollution coming from the rest of the world.

Five Smart Strategies to Lower Your Blood Pressure Naturally

Five Smart Strategies to Lower Your Blood Pressure Naturally: In general taking a blood pressure is arbitrary/ridiculous. That being said, an incredibly high reading is an emergency situation and needs to be dealt with accordingly (maybe drugs, but people should not be on drugs for long periods of times, the body was not meant to operate in that kind of state for long periods of time). There are many different factors that could lead to a high blood pressure reading, as stated by previous people, how can you account for all of them? Cuff size, who says even a small, medium, or large cuff is right for any one individual? Do people come in small, medium, and large sizes?? Everyone is different. What about the hearing of the person taking the blood pressure. Decrease in ability to hear would mean better blood pressure scores would it not? I’d hope I had an old Doc reading my blood pressure. Why would you even be trying to change the blood pressure if it wasn’t extremely high? If the body has a high blood pressure, there may just be a reason why it is doing that? Such as, anxiety from getting it taken in the first place (aka white coat syndrome), the body needs to have a higher blood pressure to get the blood to flow properly. Low fluid levels, body needs to increase the pressure due to a lack of proper hydration. Maybe this person was smoking or had some coffee earlier. Just maybe this person is doing stupid things that cause his or her blood pressure to be high. Maybe there are some genetic factors leading to it. Or just maybe this person's nervous system is not regulating the blood pressure properly due to interference. It sure could be one of the possibilities, or maybe it’s a combination? The higher blood pressure is a result of something else going on. This something else going on could be good and it could be bad. So maybe people should listen to there bodies and do healthy things for themselves, get the proper amount of sleep for them (maybe it's 6 hours, maybe it's 9), eat properly (listen to their bodies and eat what is right for that particular person), exercise (the type that works for them), think positively, work on their spiritual well being (whatever that means to them), and of course have a proper functioning nervous system, since the nervous system regulates everything in the body. It perplexes me, with all the advice being thrown around on here, nobody mentions Chiropractic. Awww, it’s because a lot of people on must not know about chiropractic. If your nerves going to your gut are being irritated and your body is not getting the proper messages and your gut is unable to send the proper messages to your brain at the same time, it doesn't matter what you eat, your body isn't going to utilize that food as well. The same can be said about sleep, exercise, and peoples' spiritual and emotional well being. The nerves also convey the power in your body. If you turn down the energy/power going to a cell, tissue, or organ is it going to work as well as it could? What is the proper amount of energy/power? The body knows, we don’t and no one outside our body knows either. It’s not rocket science people, it’s common sense.

Five Smart Strategies to Lower Your Blood Pressure Naturally

Five Smart Strategies to Lower Your Blood Pressure Naturally: Dear Dr. Mercola:

Thank you for your valuable work and for spreading information about non-toxic approaches to resolving health issues. One of the ways Rockefeller’s AMA has proven so profitable (for them) yet so catastrophic for our health is through the control of vital information.

I noticed that in your video about hypertension, you didn’t even mention salt, potassium, magnesium, or calcium. It turns out that hypertension has been cured with diet since 1904, although it wasn’t fully scientifically understood until the 1980’s.

The fundamental cause of hypertension is the consumption of insufficient amounts of potassium in relation to sodium (called the K factor), together with deficiencies in magnesium and calcium. This is not a “theory.” It has been proven by the reduction of strokes and heart attacks by a whopping 60% in the entire country of Finland – simply through the use of modified salt! We are the US! We should strive to at least keep up with Finland! In addition, hypertension is a condition in which nearly every cell in the body is sick. The elevated amounts of sodium consumption (with insufficient potassium, magnesium, and calcium) cascade into a long chain of consequences including elevated blood insulin levels, abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates.

Also, it turns out that elevated blood pressure isn’t even the biggest problem with hypertension. This has been an unexamined, but reasonable-sounding, assumption! The proof of this is that 40% of strokes are prevented by consuming amounts of potassium that are only slightly increased – yet insufficient to lower blood pressure. The percentage of strokes is further reduced if additional amounts of potassium are consumed that do reduce blood pressure. In addition, there is a reduction by only 1/3 in the rates of stroke and heart attack when the blood pressure is reduced to “normal” using drugs, thereby providing a false sense of security. This is not the case if blood pressure is normalized with diet, which seems to solve all the problems of hypertension.

Also, it turns out that 120/80, which is called “normal” blood pressure, is not healthy! People with this blood pressure level still suffer strokes and heart attacks! 120/80 is only an average within the US. Healthy levels seem to be below115/75. Once again, this is not a theory. It is proven by measuring the blood pressures of various societies that never get strokes or heart attacks. These societies include indigenous cultures, modern societies, vegetarians, meat-eaters, those that consume salt and fats, and those that don’t, etc. These societies also have elevated levels of stress. Many have a genetic history of strokes and heart attacks. But they all have one thing in common: their diets are characterized by large amounts of potassium in relation to sodium (high K factors).

News from The Associated Press

News from The Associated Press: SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) -- The woman who helped her husband kill 14 people at a holiday banquet for his county co-workers pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group and its leader on Facebook using an alias, then deleted the messages before the attack, a U.S. law enforcement official said Friday, providing the strongest evidence to date that the rampage may have been a terrorist attack.

The remarkable disclosure about the online activities of Tashfeen Malik provided the first significant details suggesting a motive for her participation with her husband, Syed Farook, in the shooting.

Malik was a Pakistani woman who came to the U.S. in 2014 on a fiancee visa before Farook married her in California. They had a 6-month-old daughter.

Syed Farook, Tashfeen Malik erased digital footprints day before San Bernardino attacks - Washington Times

Syed Farook, Tashfeen Malik erased digital footprints day before San Bernardino attacks - Washington Times: The Muslim husband and wife behind the mass shooting in San Bernardino began erasing their digital footprint a day in advance of the deadly attack, deleting email accounts, disposing of hard drives and smashing their cellphones, according to law enforcement investigators who are treating the probe as a counterterrorism case.

Investigators edged closer Thursday to the conclusion that Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, were radicalized by Islamist extremists either in the U.S. or during trips to the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.

Joke: What would you do for 5000 dollars? | Funny - BabaMail

Joke: What would you do for 5000 dollars? | Funny - BabaMail

2 couples were playing a round
of poker one summer night, when one of the husbands, Bob, accidentally
dropped a few of his chips on the floor. As he bent down to retrieve
them, he couldn't help but notice that Jay's wife Kate was touching him
with her foot in a very obvious way.

seductive womanLater, Bob went into the kitchen to get some refreshments. Kate followed him and asked, "Do you like what you see?"

Surprised
by her boldness, Bob courageously admitted that, well, yes, he did. She
said, "You can have it, but it will cost you $5000." After taking a
minute or two to assess the financial and moral costs of this offer, Bob
indicated that he was indeed interested.

She told
him that since her husband, Jay, works Friday afternoons and Bob
doesn't, that Bob should be at her house around 2:00 PM, Friday
afternoon.

When
Friday rolls around, Bob shows up at Jay's house for sex with Jay's wife
at 2:00 PM sharp, and after paying her the agreed upon $5000.00, they
go to her bedroom and have fantastic sex, just as Kate had promised.
Afterwards, Bob quickly dresses and leaves.

As was
his habit at 6:00 PM, Jay returned home from work. Upon entering the
house and encountering his wife, he asked loudly, "Did Bob come by with
my money?"

With a lump in her throat, his wife answered, "Oh yeah, he did stop by here for a few minutes this afternoon."

Her heart nearly skipped a beat when Jay curtly asked, "And did he give you $5000.00?"

In terror
she assumed she'd somehow been found out, and after mustering up her
best poker face, she replied, "Well, yes, in fact he did give me a five
thousand dollars."

Jay, with
a satisfied look on his face, surprised Kate by saying, "Good, I was
hoping so. Bob came by my office this last night and borrowed 5 thousand
dollars from me. He promised me he'd stop by this afternoon on his way home and pay me back."

Moe Bandy - Till I'm Too Old To Die Young lyrics | LyricsMode.com: If life is like a candle bright death must be the wind
You can close your window tight and it still comes flowing in
So I will climb the highest hill and watch the rising sun
And I pray that I don't feel the chill till I'm too old to die young

Chorus
Let me watch my children grow to see what they become
Oh Lord don't let that cold wind blow till I'm too old to die young

Now I have had some dear sweet friends I thought would never die
Now the only thing that's left of them is the teardrops in my eyes
If I could have one wish today and know it would be done
Well I would say everyone could stay till they're too old to die young

[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in] by E. E. Cummings : Poetry Magazine: [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in]
By E. E. Cummings
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

10 Prayers of Thanksgiving and Praise

10 Prayers of Thanksgiving and Praise: A President’s Prayer of Thanksgiving & Praise:

Most gracious Lord God, from whom proceedeth every good and perfect gift, I offer to Thy Divine Majesty my unfeigned praise and thanksgiving, for all Thy mercies toward me. Thou made me at first and hast ever since sustained the work of Thine own hand. Thou gave Thy Son to die for me, and hast given me assurance of salvation upon my repentance and sincerely endeavoring to conform my life to His holy precepts and example. Thou art pleased to lengthen out to me the time of repentance and to move me to it by Thy Spirit and by Thy Word, and by Thy mercies and by Thy judgments. Amen. (George Washington)

10 Great Thanksgiving Prayers

10 Great Thanksgiving Prayers: Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

Serve the LORD with gladness:
come before his presence with singing.

Know ye that the LORD he is God:
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

For the LORD is good;
his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations.

10 Great Thanksgiving Prayers

10 Great Thanksgiving Prayers: Help Me Thanksgiving Day Prayer

O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen.
