Importance of Gut Bacteria for Neurological Disorders
Importance of Gut Bacteria for Neurological Disorders: Many think Kefir and Yogurt to be the same. Though Kefir and yogurt have similar taste and other similar properties, these two milk products are not the same. In fact they are quite different.
Kefir helps to colonize intestinal tract, which Yogurt cannot. Difference that can be noticed is that Kefir’s yeast and bacteria combination has more nutritional value than Yogurt. Kefir also helps to keep the colon clean and healthy. Kefir contains several major strains of friendly bacteria not commonly found in yogurt, Lactobacillus Caucasus, Leuconostoc, Acetobacter species, and Streptococcus species.
Kefir also contains beneficial yeasts, such as Saccharomyces kefir and Torula kefir, which dominate, control and eliminate destructive pathogenic yeasts in the body. They do so by penetrating the mucosal lining where unhealthy yeast and bacteria reside, forming a virtual SWAT team that housecleans and strengthens the intestines. Hence, the body becomes more efficient in resisting such pathogens as E. coli and intestinal parasites
Considering the digestion, Kefir is more easily digested than Yogurt. As the Kefir curd size is smaller to that of Yogurt, it becomes easier to get digested. This makes it perfect food for the babies and elderly people.

She squeezed his arm and they looked at
each other and I could see genuine affection that only a combination of
years together and crises weathered can produce.
We continued down Elm Street until we
were right below the concrete pedestal on which Abraham Zapruder and his
secretary Marilyn Sitzman stood while filming the assassination. I
pointed it out to the Connallys, pivoted and turned to face east,
directly at the County Records Building. As I pointed up to the roof of
that building, I said, “That is where the shooter was who shot you. The
bullet entered your back and exited your chest.”
Now I turned to face north and looked
up at the sixth floor of the Book Depository and said, “The top floor of
windows is the seventh, so the next floor down is the sixth. Way over
on the east end is where the Warren Commission said that Lee Oswald
was…but we all know he wasn’t. However someone was in that window.
“The shooter who shot you a second time, was in the…”
elbow her husband in the ribs gently and say,”See, John, I told you
that I felt something hit you when I was pulled you over. Now I have
proof.”
“Mrs. Connally,” I said. “This isn’t
proof, it’s just my take on who was where on that day. I looked at the
wounds on both the Governor and the President as well as the spectator
who was hit way down there by the underpass on Commerce Street. I just
did what a ballistics person would do at any other shooting scene. Work
backwards. Don’t let yourself be swayed by what other people have said
happened. Work it out for yourself.”
“For years,” said Nellie Connally, “I
have believed that John was struck by two shots, but he has insisted
that he felt only one.”
I said, “I think that by the time the
second shot hit, maybe two seconds after the first one, that the
Governor was already in shock and that he wasn’t capable of feeling
anything. He also would have had a loud rushing noise in his ears, so
until he was down in your lap and the car was on its way to the
hospital, he probably couldn’t hear anything either.”
The Governor was silent for a moment and then asked, “Al, how many shooters do you think were firing at us?”
“Six,” I said.
John Connally chuckled a bit and said,
“That’s what shoots you conspiracy buffs down in the press. You always
over-reach. How could that many people keep a secret for almost thirty
years?”
“Governor?” I asked, “Do you remember the armoured car robbery in Boston in the early fifties?”
“Of course,” he said.
“Imagine that you and I are just
chatting about what we’ve done in our lives and I say that I was part of
that armed robbery. Do you honestly think that anyone involved in that
case would say anything to anyone even forty years after the fact?”
“Probably not,” the Governor said after thinking for a few moments.
“Well,” I said, “At the centre of this
event, when you put aside all the theories, trajectories, reports,
obfuscations, misdirections and even outright lies, there is one simple
fact: a homicide occurred. John Kennedy was killed and the statute of
limitations never runs out on murder. So why would anyone risk coming
forward even thirty years later?”
The Governor said nothing but I could see him formulating a reply. “So how many people who were involved, know everything?”
“Everything?” I repeated. “Nobody. It
wouldn’t be safe for anyone to know everything. The same way that covert
operations use ‘cutouts’ and anonymous people to deliver messages and
material, I can’t see anyone even wanting to know everything. That is
except us!”
The three of us laughed at that and I
felt that if I could get John and Nellie Connally to laugh at a place
where one of them was shot and both of them scarred forever, then I did
my job.
“How long have you been interested in the case?” Nellie Connally asked.
“Then your early interest in the assassination is even more interesting,” said Nellie Connally.
“So,” said the Governor, “You said that you thought there were six people involved. Where were they?”
“I said that there were six people
shooting at you,” I corrected, “And they were everywhere. My scenario
has the first shot hitting the President in the throat fired from behind
the picket fence. The second, third and fourth shots were almost
simultaneous. One was the shot that hit you, fired from the roof of the
Country Records Building. Another was from the so-called ‘Oswald window’
or ‘sniper’s
nest’ which hit the President in the back. The third of these three
shots was fired from the second floor window of the Dal-Tex Building,
went through the limousine’s windshield and then hit the curbstone down
by the triple underpass and Commerce Street. A fragment either of the
bullet or the curbstone that it hit flew up and slightly wounded a
spectator named James Tague. The next shot was the second shot that hit
you in the wrist and ended up in your left thigh, fired from the west
window on the sixth floor. The final shot is controversial. I believe
that it was fired from this storm drain.”
full eight inches high. Plenty of room for a person to fire a handgun
and the shot was very close. When I first spoke to Bill and Gail
Newman—who were just up Elm Street from here on that day—about eight
years ago, I mentioned to Bill that I had heard a radio interview with
him done on the afternoon of the assassination and that he had said the
last shot ‘sounded different’. When I said this to him, I could see him
replaying the assassination in his mind—as I’m sure that both you and
Nellie, uh, sorry, Mrs. Connally…”
“Al, ‘Nellie’ is just fine,” she
interrupted. “And so is ‘John’. He hasn’t been ‘The Governor’ for a long
time now!” She laughed.
“I kinda liked being called ‘Governor’ again, dear,” said John Connally and smiled at his wife.
“Well Billy Newman said that when he
thought about it now, the last shot did sound different. I asked him if
it was more of a ‘boom’ while the others were more of a ‘crack’ and he
said that was it exactly! I asked him if it could have been fired by a
handgun instead of a high-powered rifle, from underground instead of
from a window and from down to his right, instead of behind him? Newman
looked at me and nodded.”

At
the 1992 version of ASK (The Assassination Symposium on John F.
Kennedy), the final event of the weekend was to be ‘The Dealey Plaza
Walk About’. That was to run from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and there were
maybe ten of us ‘tour guides’ who would take groups of interested
symposium attendees—as well as members of the general public who
happened to find themselves there—on a tour of Dealey Plaza.

The
Governor apologized that his aide had written down the time of the
ending of the event instead of the start and he wondered if it was too

them for a brief tour, until it got dark. While it was warm, and it was
Texas, it was still the end of November and the thousands of birds that

He

wondered if any of my fellow researchers would believe me when I got
back to the Hyatt Reunion Hotel, but some attendees had seen me with the

How to Expunge a Criminal Record in California: 9 Steps
How to Expunge a Criminal Record in California: 9 Steps
How to Expunge a Criminal Record in California
Have you lost out on job opportunities because of a criminal record conviction? A conviction on your record can also be embarrassing and cause stress. There is some good news, though. If you live in California, you may qualify to expunge your criminal record. This means that past convictions will no longer show up on your record. You'll need to determine if you're eligible and fill out the paperwork.
Part 1 of 2: Preparing to File for Expungement
- 1Know the basic qualifications for expungement. To qualify, you must have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony offense. You must successfully finish probation and not be currently charged with a criminal offense. Also, you can't be on probation or serving a sentence for a criminal offense.
- In general, you must have successfully completed all your probation to get an expungement. This means you completed all the terms of your probation, attended all required court appearances, and did not commit any new crimes while on probation. You might have also needed to pay fines and restitution, attended counseling, or done community service. [1]
- 2Determine whether you might qualify even if you didn't finish probation. You may still be able to get an expungement. The court will hold a hearing to determine whether to allow this. At the hearing, the judge will consider the following things:[2]
- your performance while on probation
- the seriousness of the underlying conviction
- your criminal history
- why you think you deserve this relief (such as:your opportunity to get a good job, the fact that you support your family, the fact that you have strong community ties, etc.)
- any other factors that they deem relevant
- 3Make sure your case does not fall within specific exceptions. If you served time in any California State Prison, you will not qualify for an expungement. Expungement is only for people convicted of a misdemeanor or a felony that could have been charged as a misdemeanor. It is also limited to those sentenced to county jail time, probation, a fine, or a combination of those three.[3]
- There are also some offenses which you cannot expunge under any circumstances. These include any sexual crime involving a child (including molestation, rape, and sodomy) and statutory rape.[4]
- 4Determine which forms you will need. In California the forms that you must fill out to get an expungement are called PC 1203.4 forms. [5][6] To expunge a misdemeanor, file a Petition to Dismiss a Misdemeanor if you've completed probation. If you haven't completed probation, file a Motion to Terminate Probation or a Petition for Dismissal if the motion isn't granted.[7][8]
- In the case of a felony in which probation was ordered, you'll need to file under PC § 17(b)(3) to reduce the felony to a misdemeanor. Then you can file a Petition to Dismiss a Misdemeanor or Petition to Dismiss a Misdemeanor. The forms for felony reduction are available at any court location.[9] In the case of a felony in which you were sentenced to prison time but instead served time in county jail, file under PC § 1203.41.[10]
Part 2 of 2: Filing for Expungement
- 1Get and fill out the forms. Download the necessary forms from the court's website or get them from the court in person.[11] Fill them out completely and accurately.
- You may want to attach any documents you want to show to the court. These documents can include proof of program or rehabilitation completion. Character reference letters and community service completion paperwork are also often included. They are not required but may be helpful.[12]
- 2File the forms and pay the fee. File the forms with the court where the offense occurred. Go to the office of the clerk of court with your completed forms and the filing fee.[13]
- The filing fee varies based on the county where you were convicted and whether you were convicted of a misdemeanor or a felony. For example, San Diego County charges a filing fee of $60 for a misdemeanor and $120 for a felony. Look up the cost in the area you live by visiting the court's website.
- 3Prepare for your hearing. After you file your paperwork, the court will schedule a hearing. It will be up to a judge to decide whether to grant your expungement. Before this hearing, it is a good idea to consult with an attorney about how best to prepare.
- Before the hearing, the court will notify the prosecutor in your case so that they can file objections to the application for expungement.
- The prosecutor’s objections will set forth the specific reasons why they claim the expungement should be denied. You will want to have responses prepared to any foreseeable objection.
- Prepare a statement for the court and make copies of all documents and evidence related to your case that you wish to submit.[14]
- 4Attend your hearing. Show up on time, dress appropriately, and behave respectfully. Address the judge by his or her formal title ("judge" or "your honor"). At the hearing, the court will either grant or deny the expungement based upon the evidence and arguments presented.[15] There are several things the court will consider when making this decision, such as:
- Whether you have been charged with or arrested for any more crimes.
- Your behavior since the offense. This includes your ability to keep a job and pay your bills and debts. It also includes education or job-training you've completed. Judges often will consider community involvement like joining a church or volunteering, too.
- Any arguments raised by the prosecution .
- Whether the government has an interest in maintaining your criminal record.
- 5Re-file if necessary. If the judge denies your petition, ask what you need to do to get your conviction expunged. The judge will tell you why he or she denied the petition, and what you need to do to get the petition granted. After listening to the changes that the judge suggests, make any necessary changes you can.
- You may re-file your petition 6 months after the original denial, after you have made the changes recommended by the judge.[16]

AMERICAN DIGEST: Comment on When Earth's Last Picture Is Painted by Rudyard Kipling
AMERICAN DIGEST: Comment on When Earth's Last Picture Is Painted by Rudyard Kipling:
THE STRANGER
1908
The Stranger within my gate,
He may be true or kind,
But he does not talk my talk—
I cannot feel his mind.
I see the face and the eyes and the mouth,
But not the soul behind.
The men of my own stock,
They may do ill or well,
But they tell the lies I am wonted to,
They are used to the lies I tell;
And we do not need interpreters
When we go to buy or sell.
The Stranger within my gates,
He may be evil or good,
But I cannot tell what powers control—
What reasons sway his mood;
Nor when the Gods of his far-off land
Shall repossess his blood.
The men of my own stock,
Bitter bad they may be,
But, at least, they hear the things I hear,
And see the things I see;
And whatever I think of them and their likes
They think of the likes of me.
This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf—
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.
THE STRANGER
1908
The Stranger within my gate,
He may be true or kind,
But he does not talk my talk—
I cannot feel his mind.
I see the face and the eyes and the mouth,
But not the soul behind.
The men of my own stock,
They may do ill or well,
But they tell the lies I am wonted to,
They are used to the lies I tell;
And we do not need interpreters
When we go to buy or sell.
The Stranger within my gates,
He may be evil or good,
But I cannot tell what powers control—
What reasons sway his mood;
Nor when the Gods of his far-off land
Shall repossess his blood.
The men of my own stock,
Bitter bad they may be,
But, at least, they hear the things I hear,
And see the things I see;
And whatever I think of them and their likes
They think of the likes of me.
This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf—
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

HUMOR
A psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with four young mothers and their small children.

"You all have obsessions," he observed.

To the first mother, Mary, he said, "You are obsessed with eating. You've even named your daughter Candy."

He turned to the second Mom, Ann: "Your obsession is with money. Again, it manifests itself in your child's name, Penny."

He turned to the third Mom, Joyce: "Your obsession is alcohol. This too shows itself in your child's name, Brandy."

At this point, the fourth mother, Carol, quietly got up, took her little boy by the hand, and whispered, "Come on, Dick, this guy has no idea what he's talking about. Let's pick up Peter and Willy from school and go get dinner."

To demonise element number six in the periodic table is amusing. Why not promethium? Carbon dioxide is an odourless, colourless, harmless natural gas. It is plant food. Without carbon, there would be no life on Earth.
The original source of atmospheric CO2 is volcanoes. The Earth's early atmosphere had a thousand times the CO2 of today's atmosphere. This CO2 was recycled through rocks, life and the oceans. Through time, this CO2 has been sequestered into plants, coal, petroleum, minerals and carbonate rocks, resulting in a decrease in atmospheric CO2.
The atmosphere now contains 800 billion tonnes of carbon as CO2. Soils and plants contain 2000 billion tonnes, oceans 39,000 billion tonnes and limestone 65,000,000 billion tonnes. The atmosphere contains only 0.001 per cent of the total carbon in the top few kilometres of the Earth. Deeper in Earth, there are huge volumes of CO2 yet to be leaked into the atmosphere. So depleted is the atmosphere in CO2, that horticulturalists pump warm CO2 into glasshouses to accelerate plant growth.
Our planet has about 1,000 volcanoes on land, such as Holuhraun and Bardarbunga, but most of our volcanoes are under the sea. “Some 85 per cent of volcanoes are unseen and unmeasured yet these heat the oceans and add monstrous amounts of CO2 to the oceans,” notes Dr. Plimer. “Why have these been ignored?,” he asks.

Grace in the Blue Ridge Mountains @ AMERICAN DIGEST
Grace in the Blue Ridge Mountains @ AMERICAN DIGEST
The check had come and I'd paid it. They'd filled the restaurant and turned it once since we'd been there. A popular place. A post-post- modern place, a place that was a sterling example of how we live now -- the real and the regional reduced to a remembrance, the communities gated, the homes "maintenance -free." History in a bottle, cleaned, pressed and with the trans-fats removed. Just the way we like it. Traditional in style but tradition-free in content. The experience without the meaning and not missing it.
As I got up to leave the family of six at the long table across from me was served with the quick flourish and satisfied air of presentation that is the style of serving these days. The was food steaming in front of them, but none of them made a move towards it. Instead, they talked quietly amongst themselves and seemed to come to a decision. They made their selection from among them. It was to be one of the daughters, a girl of about 17 I guessed. The din in the restaurant rose and fell, but the family of six sat quietly and then bowed their heads as one. Then they said grace.
I stood motionless at my table. I had, I thought, never seen this before in a restaurant. I'd seen it in private homes to be sure, but upon reflection I realized that I'd not seen it there in quite sometime. And I was quite sure this was, for me, a rare event. I'd probably not been paying attention since it no doubt went on all the time, but still it was a startling moment. Perhaps I'd just been too long in Seattle where the only manifestations of spirit are flimsy; where the invocations are raised to a watery Buddhism or bloodless Unitarianism where God is impossibly distant if at all extant. Be that as it may, this simple act of saying grace did not so much shock me as still me. I paused to listen in. And the daughter did not disappoint.
Her's was no gestural grace -- "Bless this food. Amen. Let's eat." -- but an extended meditation on the good fortune to find oneself among family and before a rich selection of food; an acknowledgment of an unusual level of being blessed by God, and a calling down of God's grace on members of the family present and not present, and ending with a wish that God continue to bless the family, the community, the state and the country. Then, and only then, was "Amen" spoken and the meal begun.
Outside along the Asheville streets, it was a balmy evening. Down the block another restaurant offered "Exceptional International Vegetarian Food," and a shop on the corner sold items imported from Africa whose purchase was purported to help suffering children here and there in that blighted continent. A local freebie paper picked off a stack had decided that a photo of a tribal protest in Santiago, Chile on the Dia de la Raza was important information for the citizens of this part of town. Down in the Asheville hipster-dopester-homeless gulch at a more cut-rate vegetarian restaurant, citizens with shaved heads, "message" t-shirts, multiple facial piercing and full-body tattoos were climbing the stairs in search of a bran muffin, bitching about George Bush, global warming, and their personal collection of STDs while complaining of residual racism in a city that seems more white than Seattle.
The road back to the house in the hills was dark and winding and you had to take it slow. Going back it was nice to know that somewhere, somehow, and for reasons that sometimes challenge all understanding, there were people still asking God to bless America.

The Rank Stranger
I wandered again to my home in the mountain
Where in youths early dawn I was happy and free
I looked for my friends but I never could find them
I found they were all rank strangers to me
Everybody I met seemed to be a rank stranger
No mother no dad not a friend I could see
They knew not my name and I knew not their faces
I found they were all rank strangers to me
They've moved all away said the voice of a stranger
To a beautiful home by the bright crystal sea
Some beautiful day I'll meet them in Heaven
Where no one will be a stranger to me

Curmudgeonly & Skeptical presents Boned Jello
Curmudgeonly & Skeptical presents Boned Jello: Long, long ago - An old Indiana geezer, who had been a retired farmer for a long time, became bored and decided to open a medical clinic based upon his vast knowledge of treating animals.
To stop the skeptics he put a sign up outside that said: "Dr.
Geezer’s clinic - Get your treatment for $5.00, if not cured get back $10.00."
Doctor Young, who was new to the community, and was a recent Eastern medical school graduate, was positive that this old geezer
didn't know beans about medicine and thought that this would be a great opportunity to enhance his reputation in the community and to get an easy $10.00 in the meantime. So he went to Dr. Geezer’s clinic.
This is what happened:
Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth, can you please help me?"
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring the medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young's mouth."
Dr. Young: Aaagh! "This is nothing but coal oil!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $5.00."
Dr. Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring to recover his lost $5.00:
Dr. Young: "Doctor, I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything."
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring the medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's mouth."
Dr. Young: "Oh no you don't! I remember your "box 22" that's coal oil!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $5.00."
Dr. Young (After already having lost $10.00) leaves angrily and comes back after several more days.
Dr. Young: "Listen Doctor, my eyesight has suddenly become weak and I can hardly see!"
Dr. Geezer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for that so, here's your $10.00 back."
Dr. Young: "But this is only $5.00!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be another $5.00 please."
The moral of the story: Just because you're "Young" doesn't mean that you can out-smart an old "Indiana/Geezer"

proof of christ's divinity
AMERICAN DIGEST Essays, News, Notes, and Quotes: What greater proof of His divinity could there be than the fact that He is still resisted, even hated, after 2,000 years?
Nobody hates Julius Caesar anymore; it’s pretty hard even to hate Attila the Hun, who left a lot of hard feelings in his day. But the world still hates Christ and his Church.
The usual form of this hatred is interesting in itself. For every outright persecutor, there are countless people who pretend not to hate Christ, but subtly demote him to the rank of a “great moral teacher,” or say they have nothing against Christianity as long as the “separation of church and state” is observed, or, under the guise of scholarship, affect to winnow out his “authentic” utterances from those falsely ascribed to him — as if the Apostles would have dared to put words in his mouth! And as if such fabricated words would have proved as durable as “authentic” ones! (Try writing a single sentence that anyone could mistake for a saying of Christ for even a century.) Sobran's --- The Words and Deeds of Christ

Hey Joe,
I wanted to make all of you aware of my Jay Watkins Fish Smart Spring Seminar that is scheduled for Friday May the 1st 2015. The evening seminar will be at the HAMPTON INN and SUITES meeting room. The Hampton Inn and Suites is located on Hwy 35 North in Rockport/Fulton. Seminar will start at 5:30 and end around 9;00pm. I will furnish drinks and pizza to snack on while we talk you through the patterns and specific changes that 2015 will be presenting us. All good changes and positive out look for our fishery I promise. Cost of seminar is 125.00 per person. If your already coming to Rockport for a weekend of fishing that is great. If not maybe this would be an excellent chance to come down and learn something and get in a couple of days of fishing as well. Knowledge is priceless and lends itself to more confidence which creates greater success on the water.

You will need a note pad and pen and the HOOK-N-LINE FISHING MAP NUMBER F-116. You will be provide with a copy of all the areas that I fish and the conditions so you won't miss anything as we go through my spring fishing areas. Tape recorders are permitted but no videos please. I will be talking about the areas that I fish and the patterns/conditions in which to fish these areas. I will also be discussing the positive effects recent rains have had on the fishery as well as educating everyone on the effects of the opening of Cedar Bayou. Mother Nature along with the saltwater anglers in Texas and the CCA have made great strides in aiding in the recovery of the fishery and the estuaries. I have already seen many positive signs in our Northern Bay systems due to the rain and the opening of Cedar Bayou.

SEATING WILL BE LIMITED due to the size of our meeting room so do not wait too long to respond to this E-MAIL if your interested in attending. No response is needed if your not interested of course.

Make Check for 125.00 payable to:

AMERICAN DIGEST Essays, News, Notes, and Quotes: Rudy Giuliani: In your heart you know he's right.
Megyn Kelly asked His Honor,
"Mr. Mayor, do you want to apologize for your comments?"
Rudy Giuliani replied:
"Not at all. I want to repeat it. The reality is from all that can see of this president, all that I’ve heard of him, he apologizes for America, he criticizes America. He talks about the crusades and how the Christians were barbarians, leaves out the second half of the sentence that the Muslims were barbarians also. He sees Christians slaughtered and doesn’t stand up and hold a press conference, although we hold a press conference for the situation in Ferguson. He sees Jews being killed for anti-Semitic reasons. Doesn’t stand up and hold a press conference. This is an American president I’ve never seen before."

Will my face, made careworn and tired, be restored in your mind's eye? I cannot know what it was you ever saw in me. I cannot understand how you could know that when I said those things all people say to one another, almost without thinking, that I would really mean them. Sippican Cottage: The Festival of the Kiss

9. During an attack that started January 3 and continued through January 11, Boko Haram opened fire on 16 northern Nigerian villages.
The death toll estimates range from 200 to as many 2,000 people.
Another 10,000 people who managed to escape have fled to neighboring
Chad. Many Nigerians drowned in an attempt to cross Lake Chad to escape
what is now described as the "deadliest massacre" in the history of
Boko Haram. Over the past six months, the militant group has taken
control of more than two dozen towns in northeast Nigeria, most of them
in Borno State, and launched attacks into Chad and Cameroon.
The territory controlled by Boko Haram now nearly equals the Islamic
State's in Iraq and Syria.

Blood Pressure Drugs May Backfire On You
Blood Pressure Drugs May Backfire On You: My Prescription for Achieving Healthy Blood Pressure WITHOUT Drugs
- Replace most of your carbs with non-starchy vegetables and replace the lost calories with healthy fats as mentioned above
- Normalize your omega 6:3 ratio. Both omega-3 and omega-6 fats are essential for your health. Most Americans, however, are getting too much omega-6 and too little omega-3 in their diets. Consuming omega-3 fats is one of the best ways to re-sensitize your insulin receptors if you suffer from insulin resistance. Omega-3 fats are also important for strong cell membranes and good arterial elasticity. The best sources of omega-3 fats are fish and animal products. Unfortunately, most fresh fish today contains dangerously high levels of mercury. Your best bet is to find a safe source of fish, or if this proves too difficult, supplement with a high quality krill oil.
- Eliminate caffeine. The connection between caffeine consumption and high blood pressure is not well understood, but there is ample evidence to indicate that if you have hypertension, coffee and other caffeinated drinks and foods can exacerbate your condition.
- Consume fermented foods. Disturbances in gut flora appear to be a significant factor in the development of heart disease, as well as in many other chronic health problems. The best way to optimize your gut flora is by including some naturally fermented foods in your diet, such as sauerkraut and other fermented vegetables, yogurt, kefir, cheese and natto. Fermented foods (especially gouda and edam cheeses) are an important source of vitamin K2, which plays a crucial role in protecting your heart and brain.
- Optimize your vitamin D level. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to metabolic syndrome, as well as to high blood pressure. Vitamin D is a negative inhibitor of your body's renin-angiotensin system (RAS), which regulates blood pressure. If you're vitamin D deficient, it can cause inappropriate activation of your RAS, which may lead to hypertension. Ideally, you'll want to get your vitamin D by safely exposing your skin to the sun, or using a safe tanning bed. If those are not possible, then consider taking a vitamin D3 supplement.
- Make exercise a priority. A comprehensive exercise regimen such as my Peak Fitness program is very important in maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system. Your routine should incorporate high-intensity burst-type exercises and weight training one to three times a week, as these have been shown to be even more effective than aerobic exercises at reducing your risk of dying from a heart attack.
- Get Grounded. Lack of grounding, due to widespread use of rubber or plastic-souled shoes, is likely contributing to chronic inflammation today. When you walk on the earth barefoot there is a massive transfer of beneficial electrons rom the Earth into your body. Experiments show that walking barefoot outside improves blood viscosity and blood flow, which help regulate blood pressure. So, do yourself a favor and put your bare feet upon the sand or dewy grass to harness the healing power of the Earth.
- Manage your stress. It’s a well-known fact that stress elevates blood pressure, so controlling stress is an essential element of good heart health. My preferred stress-busting tool is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), which is easy to learn and easy to use. However, you might find other methods like yoga, meditation, or prayer, equally effective.

Strategies to Help Prevent Hypertension: ome Blood Pressure Drugs Raise Risk of Blindness
Some Blood Pressure Drugs Raise Risk of Blindness
Another major population study discovered that some type of hypertension drugs called vasodilators actually increase your risk of early onset of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is the most common cause of blindness among American seniors. As noted in a press release:17"...[R]esearchers... conducted a long-term population-based cohort study from 1988 to 2013 of nearly 5,000 residents of Beaver Dam, Wis., aged 43 to 86 years... The researchers found that, after adjusting for age, sex and other factors, using any vasodilator such as Apresoline and Loniten, which open (dilate) the blood vessels—was associated with a 72 percent greater risk of developing early-stage AMD. Among people who were not taking vasodilators, an estimated 8.2 percent developed signs of early AMD. In comparison, among those taking a vasodilator medication, 19.1 percent developed the disease. The researchers also found that taking oral beta blockers such as Tenormin and Lopressor was associated with a 71 percent increase in the risk of neovascular AMD, a more advanced and vision-threatening form of the disease. Among those who were not taking oral beta blockers an estimated 0.5 percent developed signs of neovascular AMD. In comparison among those taking oral beta blockers, 1.2 percent developed neovascular AMD."
